The Story 13 - Finishing Strong

Solomon, king of Israel, seemed to make all the right chooses early in his life. He asked for wisdom, built the temple and was very successful in all that He did. He was a king who had it all. His father king David encouraged him to follow the law of Moses which would have brought forth success and continual strength for the kingdom of Israel. We are not told all the reasons for the shift in Solomon's life from making good decisions to poor decisions but the pressures of this life and the desire for pleasure are often in the mix when a person begins to make poor decisions. There is a problem humans face which is once we begin to make poor decisions it is often hard to stop the direction we are going until diaster occurs. Solomon rejected the counsel of God and begin to marry foreign wives which turned him to idol worship. This was evil in the sight of the Lord not just a bad decision. Solomon started well but did not finish well. Jesus told the parable of the sower and some of the seed was sown in the midst of weeds which choked out the seed's fruitfulness. This type of soil was discribed as the cares of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth. It does not matter whether it was during the time of Solomon, Jesus or today we are confronted with the cares of life and money issues and how we handle these issues will determine whether or not we will finish well. The following things will help us to finish strong: first, commit to finish strong. All good things begin by making a good decision that is followed up with a determination to live out our decision to finish strong. Second, follow the commands and teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus said if you love me you will obey me. Third, begin to ask for wisdom and grace to live by the principles of Christ while in this world but never becoming part of this world. Remember our home is in heaven. May God grant to you strength and peace to finish strong.
