In order to obey the voice of the Lord I first must be able to hear the voice of the Lord. It is not easy to discern the voice of the Lord in the midst of much noise. We live in a culture of constant movement and noise. The challenge for us is to find time to be still and quiet before the Lord. The scriptures encourage us to be still before the Lord, Psalm 46:10. The scriptures encourage us to rest in the Lord, Isaiah 40:28-31. Jesus often took time away from the crowds to spend time with His Heavenly Father. From that Jesus said that He said nothing or did nothing unless His Father directed Him. Let's talk about how to hear from God today. First, pick a time and place you can pray and read the Bible everyday. Consistency of this discipline will help you to know God's voice. Do not expect too much too soon, if one does it opens up the possibility of being discouraged and quit and very thing the enemy of our souls wants you to do. Second, be a student of the Word of God. The voice of the Lord will never contradict the Word of God because He is the author of that Word. Do not allow a lack of understanding of certain passages of scriptures keep you away from reading the Bible. Unfortunately I heard many say, 'I do not understand what I am reading and therefore I do not read it.' Keep reading and God will enlighten the eyes of your heart. Third, begin to act upon the little things that you are sensing. God is testing you whether or not you will be obedient in the small things before He speaks to you more and more. Fourth, believe that He wants to speak to each and everyone of us. This is vital in that many come to think that God only will speak to certain people but Jesus paid the way for all to receive and for all to hear the voice of the Father on a personal basis.
May the Lord grant to you grace to hear Him and courage to obey Him.
