Spiritual warfare

There are many verses in the Bible that address the topic of spiritual warfare but still it seems that most people live their lives as if they were not in a war. The Bilbe speaks of light and of darkness, the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan and the reality that there still is a heaven to gain and a hell to turn from. Ephesians 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." But the apostle Peter and James tells us to draw near to God and to resist the devil. When a person has committed themselves to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior they are at war for Satan is at war with God. Satan knows he cannot defeat God so he wages war at God's children. My our eyes be open everyday to see the spiritual and not just the temporal. Proverbs 27:3 "The prudent see evil and hides himself, the naive proceed and pays the penalty." There are temporal things that seems innocent to the natural eye but can cause much spiritual unrest. An example is our culture highlighting the demonic aspects of Halloween as if it is just an innocent form of entertainment. I do not have a problem with pumpkims, fall colors and celebrations of harvest. I do have a problem with witches as being good, with many of the decorations around in the community that glorify the spirit of darkness. What does light have to do with darkness? By the way the apostle Paul ask a very similar question of the Corinth church. II Corinthians 6:14 "Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" As a believer we are to be witnesses of light. Jesus encourages His disciples to all their light to shine. Regardless of what you do this week and are involved with this week my encouragement is simple. May the light of Jesus shine through your life. Let us be aware that how we live and act will determine whether I am being a witness to light or not. Pastor John
