The judgement of Sodom is clearly connected to the sexual immorality that was present in this community. Ezekiel 16:49 "Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy." Ezekiel is presenting the root cause of the sexual immorality which resulted in the judgement of God. My concern is for America that we are not going down the same pathway of Sodom. That pathway begins with being arrogant or in other word having pride in our own ability and leaving God out of the picture. This attitude is very present where we as Americans think we can solve our own problems and there is little or no dependence on Almighty God. Pride is the doorway for a whole host of sins which includes the various forms of sexual immorality. The people of Sodom were overfed or one could say they were about satisfying their own desires. Life is basically all about meeting one's own needs and concerns. Jesus wants His disciples to deny themselves not satisfy selfish desires. The people of Sodom were unconcerned or basically saying they a bit lazy about meeting the needs of the unfortunate of their community. The prophetic word of Ezekiel concerned Sodom but there is within this word a warning for future cultures that they do not repeat the same sins of another culture that brought down the judgement of God. This is where the church must be awakened to make sure that there is not arrogance, being overfed and being unconcerned within the church. We have no right to speak to our culture at large when the same sins we are condemning in our culture is present within us as a church. The apostle Peter said the judgement is to begin in the house of God. Let us as members of His church search our hearts and repent and get right with God so we will be able to speak love and grace to our community. God is speaking love to us now so He will not have to speak judgement to us later. I pray that we will allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives.
