Keeping our Focus as Believers in Jesus Christ
There is so much in life to deal with at this moment. We have a new president which has cause a segment of our society to react in ways that I do not think is constructive for a better tomorrow. We have the continued threat of Islamic terrorist whose stated goal is world domination. We have uncertainty of the financial markets, though it looks fine now but depending on who you listen you wonder if all you retirement will be lost some day. We have an ongoing refugee problem which Christians are not sure what to think because on the one hand we are called to help those in need but with the possibility of terrorists among them brings uncertainty and confusion. I could list many other things that we deal with in our own daily lives but if we are not careful we can get sidetracked in our focus. As a believer in Jesus Christ our focus must be on Jesus first and then throughout all we do in life. Colossians 3:1-4 "Since, the, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears then you also will appear with Him in glory." Here are three things to help us to keep our focus on Jesus. First, commit to living your life by biblical principles rather then by the principles of this world. This can only happen when we read and study the Bible. I believe the Bible is our all-sufficient guide for faith and practice. Second, the development of our faith means we commit our way to the Lord and then the promise that God gives us is that He will guide our steps. This can only happen when we truly make Jesus Lord of our lives and not just confess He is our Savior. Jesus died on the cross and as we make Him both Lord and Savior He promised to be with us through all things. Third, bring everything to God in prayer. This includes being thankful for what God has done and will do for you. This includes worship and the giving of all honor and glory to God. Prayer is having a conversation to God who has our best interest in mind. If I am going to keep my focus on Jesus rather then the world around me then when I commit to doing life His way, to commit to work on my relationship with Jesus and pray often I will have a great opportunity to keep my focus on Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith. May God hand be upon your life.
