The importance of consistency

There is nothing more frustrating in life to have something that only works some of the time.  Let's use you car as an example.  What would your attitude be like if your car only worked 6 out 7 days a week.  Or to the modern man what would your attitude be if the internet only worked on the odd days of the week.  Or your smart phone dropped every 1 out of ten calls.  I could go on and on with examples of life that would frustrate us to the point that if this is how these things are going to work then I will just get rid of them and change to something that is hopefully more consistent.  Now let's turn this thought to the spiritual world.  As a believer is it important to be consistent?  The answer ought to be obvious but a quick look at lives of many Christians there is a problem of being consistent.  Is it good enough to be a Christian 5 days out of a week?  Is it good enough to love others 3 out of 4 times that you come in contact with a person?  There are many reasons why being consistent is a challenge.  Our sinful nature has a tendency toward doing life our way rather then God's way which will always led to becoming inconsistent or there is peer pressure or life just is becoming hard for a variety of reason.  Whatever the reason that seems to pop up to cause any level of inconsistency we must ask God for forgiveness because our goal is to become like Jesus Christ.  Philippians 2:5 "Have the same attitude that was in Christ Jesus".  This can only happen when we keep our goal in front of us everyday and ask God for mercy and grace to help us in our weaknesses.  Jesus is willing to help us to become a more consistent Christian but I must humble myself and ask for His power consistently which is our only hope to become a more consistent follower of Jesus Christ.
May the God of all love and strength empower you to live a life pleasing to Him.
