Sing a New Song

We are encouraged by the Psalms and by the prophets to sing a new song to the Lord.  Here are just a couple of observations on this encouragement.  First, this is a call to worship.  God is worthy of our worship whether or not we feel like worshipping Him.  There are times that a new song will freshen our worship and give us fresh insight of God when we do not fell like worshipping the Lord.  There have been times, many times, when a new worship song came out that I wanted to sing and worship with that new song a lot.  It helps us to worship in fresh ways.  Second, the call to sing a new song is a call to praise Him about something new that God is doing in your life.  God is always doing something new in our lives, it is just that we are spiritually dull sometimes that we do not notice it.  Begin to think of ways that God is speaking to you lately and find a song that reflects that activity of God in your life.  To acknowledge what God is doing through thanks and praise will heighten our awareness to the activity of God in us and in others.  Third, the call to sing a new song is an act of loving obedience.  If God encourages us to do something as simple as singing a new song to Him and we choose to sing that song, this pleases the heart of God.  God desires obedience from His children for this is one of the ways we know we belong to Him.  If we love Him, we will obey His Word.  By the way Jesus said this several times in His closing words to the disciples in the gospel of John.
May you be blessed today as you sing a new song to the Lord.
