We live in a day and age that it is getting harder and harder to discern the truth. The ability to photoshop and create instant news via facebook or twitter can be very misleading because rumors move faster today then 25 or 30 years ago. I do not know about you but I been caught in believing something that was posted online only to find out that the facts did not align with the conclusion the author was making. There are many facets concerning the truth but time and space will not allow me to discuss them but I do want to look at how some people come to what they say they believe as being truthful. Pilate asked this question of Jesus "What is truth?" John 18:38 Unfortunately Pilate did not give Jesus time to answer that question and also unfortunately many people today are not even asking that question. What is truth? How one answer that question is essential if they will even be able to discern the truth. Some people believe truth is whatever you want it to be. That may sound good for some but it totally void of intellectual consistency and honesty. This brings me back to the question of this blog: when facts no longer matter then what? If facts do not matter then you can believe whatever you want but the consequences of your actions may be different then what you would expect in what you believe. If facts do not matter then are there any rules to govern the life we live? Are there any rules to govern what a newspaper prints or news shows televise? If facts do not matter then how can a judge decide on any case brought before them? One might say these examples are obvious that facts do matter but if facts do matter in these situations why then do we act as if facts do not matter in other situations of life. There are still people who ignore the facts of genocide. Not just what happened in WWII but what is happening around the world today. My point today is to say that facts always do matter and when we begin to think that facts no longer matter whether this is done intentionally or just being naïve it will end in chaos and evil arising. When we disconnect truth and facts it will result every person doing what is right in their own eyes. Jesus stated that He was the bread of life, the light of the world, the way, the truth and the life. Many people choose not to believe the facts that Jesus lived, died and rose from the grave. This does not change the fact concerning Jesus. What is true must be consistent with the facts.
May the God of all life and truth bring enlightenment to our hearts and minds.
