This is a very popular topic for some people and the exact opposite for others. It tends to be controversial because of the variety of differing opinions and the degree that people believe in the realm of spiritual beings. My purpose here is to give an overview along with some practical advice. The scriptures talk about two kingdoms, the kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness which is the kingdom that Satan rules over, Satan is said to be the prince of the air. This being said it is not denying that there are many other political kingdoms, religions and etc. but it is stating forth within the spirit world there are only two kingdoms.
We are all spirit beings along with having a body and soul. By nature of being a spirit being I will be in one kingdom or the other one. As a believer in Jesus Christ the scripture also teach that when we accepted Jesus as Savior we move from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God. This is the basic understanding of why there is spiritual warfare. Satan loses a member whenever someone accepts Jesus Christ and will try a variety of attacks and schemes to get them back into his kingdom. There will be many battles within this war and the utlimate key in this spiritual warfare is to be on the winning side when we meet Jesus either by rapture or by death. Did I say who is the winning side? The Bible is clear that Jesus is the victor and all who trust in Him will be on the winning side. Now some practical advice to help the followers of Jesus to win the spiritual warfare that they will face.
First, the best way to assure victory is to know the victor (Jesus Christ) in an intimate manner. Our relationship with Christ must be fresh and up to date because I cannot win this battle in my own power but I need Him to help me.
Second, be observate so as not to be taken by surprise. The Bible teaches that Satan is like a roaring loin seeking someone to devour. Be on guard against the attacks of the enemy but do not see everything in life as an attack of the enemy as well. This type of discernment comes from knowing Christ and knowing His Word.
Third, pray, pray and pray some more. God is the one who grants the victory.
May the God of peace soon crush Satan under your feet. Romans 16:20
