The devotion in God Calling today was a reminder for me that my greatest need is to trust God. This devotional begins, "Hold My Hand-And Trust". This sounds so simple but yet it is one of our greatest challenges in life. Most things in our culture cry out for independence, in fact that theme is going to be loud and clear next week when we celebrate the fourth of July, Independence Day. This devotional today ended with this, "In the world, dependency is seen as immaturity. But in My kingdom, dependence on Me is a prime measure of maturity." Believers in Jesus Christ are by nature followers of Jesus. We are saved by grace and not by works or of anything accomplish in our own selves. We are people of the Spirit and are called to be filled with the Spirit. We are to become fruitful of which Jesus said in John 15 that the only way to be fruitful is to abide in the vine for we are only branches. I could go on and on of principles and biblical statements concerning the way of life for a believer in Jesus Christ is that of dependence upon God's ability not our own. I can only develop spiritual maturity by being dependent upon the One who saved me from my sins. So how can I learn to trust God more in the coming days. Allow me to say that there is no majic pathway because God deals with us on an individual basis so we will learn dependency upon God and interdepedency with each other. First, ask for humility and learm the importance of being humble. It is through humility that God reveals Himself. Humility is the recognition of my needs and God's ability to meet those needs. It is the ability to keep things in the proper order so we will think of ourselves more highly then we ought. Second, believe that God has your best interest in mind. God's plan for you is alway good. God see the big picture of which we seldom do and being an all wise God He can be trust. Third, believing what God said and have faith to see it come into reality. God's Word is powerful and creative. Simple faith in trusting what God said sounds so easy but with all our distractions and influences in the world it is actually one of the most difficult things to do. 'Trust and obey for there is no better way, to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.' these are words from an old gospel song but what sounds so simple is actually a life long pursuit to accomplish. My journey of learning to trust God is clearly not over, though I have been a Christian for 40 years now I am being taught by the Lord lessons so that I will trust in Him with my whole heart.
May the God of all love and faithfulness help us to trust Him.
