My greatest need

I am becoming aware that my greatest need is hardly ever what I think it is intially.  There are times I think my greatest is a financial blessing or a particular family need or a particular church need and as important these things maybe there are secondary to my greatest need of trusting Jesus.  I am prone to think that I can fix anything around the house.  This leads me to trust in my own ability to get some things done which can lead to pride.  If that attitude was only in this area in my life it would not be so bad but our attitudes in one area will often affect how we view other areas of our life.  Let's take a church situation that is very needing and it appears by me and other people in leadership that this is presently the greatest need in church life at this moment.  The problem arises when we begin to devise a plan to solve the problem.  Let's say our greatest need is for more workers in a variety of ministries.  By the way this is often one of the big needs in many churches.  Often the first thing that happens is there is a bulletin announcement, a plea from the pulpit and asking some people if they might be willing to help out.  None of these are wrong in themselves but the Lord Jesus instructed us that the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few, pray the Lord of the harvest for more workers.  I confess that I have prayed that prayer but mainly with lip service to be able to say I prayed about it but did I really trust that Jesus would send the workers?  Did I trust Jesus that He has the ability to send us workers?  Far too often I say I trust Him and then begin to work as if everything depended upon what I did.  That is not genuine trust in Jesus.  The Lord has been working upon my heart to trust Him more.  I often repeat the work 'I trust You, Jesus'.  You see now that my greatest need is to develop a heart that will trust Jesus more and more.  That I will take Jesus at His Word and trust Him.  Then and only then will I be able to say that Jesus is at the center of my life.
May His faithful love be with you always.
